  • Apple Moves 1m iPhones, 10m Apps In Launch Weekend [07.14.08]
  • Apple has announced that its opening weekend launch of the new 3G model iPhone saw worldwide sales of over one million phones -- a record it took the original iPhone over two months to achieve.

The phone was launched in 21 countries, with a launch in France expected July 17th, and saw some problems with its activation service that saw many new purchasers unable to activate their new phones, and many current users unable to upgrade to the new 2.0 firmware.

Along with the hardware launch, Apple says that users downloaded or purchased over 10 million games and applications from its newly launched App Store over the weekend, with some 800 applications now online.

Of that 800, the App Store lists a full quarter of them as games, and, while the store already has more than its fair share of sudoku and card games, a number of major industry publishers are represented, including EA, Sega, and THQ.
