  • Gameloft Announces Death Race Mobile Game [08.06.08]
  • Developer and publisher Gameloft announced a licensing agreement with Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group to develop and publish an official mobile game to accompany upcoming action-thriller movie Death Race, a remake of 1975 cult film Death Race 2000, in August 2008.

As with the movie, which stars Jason Statham and opens in theaters on August 22, 2008, players join a group of prison inmates for an extreme racing competition. They'll chose from one of seven "Steel Beasts" to drive, each one with a different play style and armed with various weapons.

Death Race offers a five-episode Story Mode, which consists of shooting and racing challenges ranging from Race, Rampage, Eliminator, Shooter, and Boss Battles. As the game progresses, new cars and weapons will be unlocked and opponents will also become more difficult to defeat. After completing the Story Mode, players can access a Single Race Mode that allows them to jump into specific tracks and challenges.

Said Gameloft senior vice president of publishing Gonzague de Vallois: "Having the exclusive mobile game available just weeks before the launch of one of summer's most anticipated films is a great opportunity for us. The Death Race mobile game offers fans a great way to experience their favorite film, both before and after its debut, by adding an intense interactive component to the movie."
