Gendai Games, creator of the GameSalad game creation toolset for mobile applications, announced that it has closed its Series A round of venture capital financing headed by DFJ Mercury.
The funding supports development of GameSalad, which has been downloaded more than 70,000 times since its launch late last year. The GameSalad tool currently powers over 800 titles in the iTunes App Store, including notable releases like Asplosion! HD, Doodle Cannon, and Stunt Squirrels!
Gendai positions the GameSalad suite as a solution for non-programmers who wish to create casual mobile games.
"Gendai Games provides a paradigm shift in casual game development," said Blair Garrou, managing director of DFJ Mercury. "Our firm is attracted to the simplicity and elegance of the GameSalad toolset, and is impressed by the company's traction to date."
