  • Gameloft Announces Distribution In India, New Petz Titles [03.23.07]
  • GameloftDeveloper/publisher Gameloft has signed a direct distribution agreement with Airtel Group, India's largest mobile telephone operator, to distribute six games, and have partnered with Ubisoft to offer Catz and Petz mobile titles to consumers from April.

    Airtel Group's thirty million subscribers are now able to access Gameloft's six most popular games: Prince of Persia, LOST, Desperate Housewives, Might and Magic, Block Breaker Deluxe and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.

    The catalogue is due to extend in the coming months; all of the games can be downloaded from the Airtel's mobile portal.

    Ravi Kumar, Business Development Manager for Gameloft India, announced "We are very happy to enter into this agreement, which represents a major step forward for us. Airtel is a dynamic partner who is striving to offer its clients the simplest and most economic service possible, and Gameloft contributes a game quality that will thrill consumers."

    Gameloft, is also to broaden its range of virtual pet video games. Dogz, available since October 2006, is to be followed by Dogz 3D and Catz starting in April 2007, to be followed by the Petz game in July.

    In Catz, players can simultaneously raise up to two kittens, and Petz will offer a dozen different animals to be raised individually.

    "By launching Catz, Petz and Dogz 3D on mobile phones after our enormous success launching Dogz, we are giving ourselves the means to become the global leader of this market," announced Gonzague de Vallois, Gameloft's Vice President of Publishing. "Household pet simulation games are a major game genre, and we're doing all we can to make sure that consumers grow very fond of their favorite virtual pet and that they can take care of it wherever they go, and whenever they want."
